Words

Candies

The song was recorded live in 1997 by me and Timo playing together in my house, after a 2 days-full day preparation. The TASCAM Portastudio 4-channel tape recording was brought to Sonar 4 in October 2004, when Jean Montes joined through internet to drop a few cello notes, here they are:

You can hear all the noise form the arc and the instrument itself!

The song is introspective and emotional. Hence it has a very variable tempo, with natural rallentando and accelerando. Also the dynamics were expanded a bit. To go a little further, I inserted an original gush from my voice here and there in the silences before the beginning of the refrain. This is another trick to give the tune more “feel”, here is the sample:

I wish to thank Timo Paivansalo, he is one of the most creative and professional guitarist I have ever met.

Jean Montes has sampled his cello at IOWA university along with many other orchestral instruments. Check their website, it’s precious because it’s free and anechoic (means you can add your own reverb):

You can play the samples trough a virtual sampler, if you don’t have it, check out the free PAAX 2:
